To
show the advantages and benefits of the Rail-Veyor Bulk Material Transportation
System a demonstration system was built under Florida Institute
of Phosphate Research Contract 98-01-152S. A closed loop track
of 400 meters (equivalent of 200 meter haul distance) was used
in the operational cycle. The demo system size selected was
for a series of 42 cars, each 1.22 meters long with 0.25 meter
radius semi-circle open troughs. The resultant 51 meter train
was moved by locating drive stations 50 meters apart, providing
constant drive station contact. Drive contact pressure on
the cars was maintained by opposing screw jacks under controlled
pressure, rotating the entire drive unit and tire against
the drive plate. The operational speed was 3 meters per second.
Increasing drive tire diameter or reducing the gear ratio
of the drive could significantly increase this speed.
