Drive Stations

Driving Stations - Rail Veyor Material HaulageThe driving force to move the Rail-Veyor® train consists of a series of dual-stationary drive stations located at intervals along the track based on train length and track grades.  The drive stations are equipped with motors and gear reducers that turn horizontal tires against the side drive plates of the cars providing forward thrust or brake action.

Sensors - Rail Veyor Material HaulageWith modern programming and sensors, speed is controlled with variable frequency drives (VFD), which allow operation in either forward or reverse directions with sufficient power to start a loaded train from any position on the track even on a steep incline.

The right and left drive stations are standardized and capable of handling extreme temperatures of heat and cold.
Through the use of a sensor system, additional energy savings are achieved by shutting down the drive stations when the drives are not in contact with the train.

Drive Stations - Rail Veyor Material HaulageThe drive stations are designed to provide sufficient power to operate the system on grades up to twenty percent (20%) and control the cars through curves with a minimum turning radius of 30 metres at speeds of 10 m/s or 32 km/hr.

Rail Cars - Rail Veyor Material HaulageWhile proceeding up a 20% grade, the cars can come to a complete stop and resume progress even when fully loaded.  A fully loaded train going down hill at 3 m/s can stop in less then 5 meters. The drive stationsremove the need to have an integral drive unit on the train.  The rail weight is only based on the car and its content weight, not on the locomotive weight typical of a conventional railroad operation.
