There
are no limits on the size of the RBMTS cars. Unit train lengths
and the number of trains on the system will directly influence
capacity. Maximum operational speed has not been established,
but based on torque, gear ratios and drive tire diameters,
speeds up to 9 meters per second are realistic with off-the-shelf equipment.
A mockup 2.44 meter long car with a 0.61 meter radius and 200 millimeter
sideboards was fabricated for demonstration plant size comparison.
If this car were utilized in a series of 4 trains totalling 165 cars, each moving at an average speed of 7.5 meters per second over a distance of 10 kilometers, carrying rock with a density of 2.0 tonnes per cubic meter, 2670 tonnes of rock per hour could be transported with this system.
